

Katy Perry's Killer Queen fragrance launch was a dream brief. The bottle itself was like no other, and the TV commercial was flamboyant and exuberant. I was tasked with creating a similar wow-factor online, and fortunately the media budget matched the ambition. The backdrop to our takeover designs was Katy Perry's throne room, which we had to recreate as a backdrop to the full TVC, playable within a gilt frame. With the bottle design so key to the brand, we set about recreating it in 3D, enabling us to produce a rotating clip that felt like video but was in fact just 16 PNG frames. Therefore, as well as taking over sites including MTV and Vogue, we were able to produce a suite of rich-feeling desktop and handheld formats, compliant with the standard media file-size restrictions of the time.
