From 1998 to 2000, I worked on a number of microsites for Sky, including a promotional site for a Sky-commissioned series of short films called Tube Tales. This microsite used a combination of Java and Flash in a cutting-edge format. Testament to its robust technology, Tube Tales was still live in 2016, unchanged.

In early 1998 I art-directed a game banner campaign for Sky Sports which used Java at a time when Flash had not yet been attempted. The campaign featured in a Marketing Magazine article highlighting the emergence of rich media in online advertising. It also won Campaign of the Month in Revolution, and was picked up by the Daily Mirror for its technical innovation.

As creative director of Profero, I worked on the launch campaign for Sky Digital in 1998, producing all of the subsequent online campaigns and microsites. The main innovation during this period was our use of Flash. The launch campaign itself used Flash for the first time in the UK. Before the days of Google / DoubleClick, Profero planned the media and helped the media owners implement the creative item by item. Using Flash we were able to bring the characters, such as Sky-Man, and Mini-Dish to life in a smooth, tweened style that hadn’t been seen before in the UK.
